Deus é um artista. E o Rio, a sua obra-prima. A primeira pincelada foi azul: o mar. A tinta verde espirrou na tela e se espalhou por uma grande área: a floresta. Depois vieram as montanhas e mais água correndo por elas: as cachoeiras. Nesse cenário, eram necessários personagens especiais. Foi aí que nasceram os cariocas com seu bom humor: quando o asfalto chegou, a paisagem não mudou. Afinal, o Rio tem a maior floresta urbana do planeta. De sua área total, 18% é puro verde. Só o carioca tem o privilégio de voltar do trabalho pela orla da praia, com o sol morrendo atrás do Morro Dois Irmãos, para nascer depois, ainda mais bonito, no Arpoador. E quando chega o fim de semana pode escolher entre 83 km de praias e centenas de cachoeiras para passear e se refrescar. Ou caminhar na Lagoa, saltar de asa-delta, velejar, escalar uma montanha. Tudo isso sem ir para longe de casa. É por isso que o Rio é incomparável. E a natureza, um espetáculo único no mundo.

ILHA FISCAL

Denominada pelos europeus como Ilha dos Ratos, por ali ter funcionado o posto da guarda fiscal, que atendia ao porto da então capital do Império no séc. XIX. O conselheiro José Antônio Saraiva do Ministério da Fazenda solicitou a construção de um posto alfandegário para controle das mercadorias a serem importadas e exportadas pelo porto do Rio de Janeiro, então capital do império. A posição daquela ilha era bastante cômoda para os inspetores da Alfândega, devido à proximidade, sendo que o translado de mercadorias poderia ser executado em embarcações miúdas, sem grandes dificuldades. Inaugurado em: 27 de Abril de 1889 com a presença do Imperador A Ilha Fiscal localiza-se no interior da Baía de Guanabara, fronteira ao centro histórico da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. A ilha celebrou o último e grande Baile da monarquia em 09 Novembros de 1889, em homenagem aos oficiais do navio chileno "Almirante Cochrane", antes da Proclamação da República em 15 de Novembro de 1889. Mas, na verdade, comemorava as bodas de prata da Princesa Isabel e do Conde d´Eu. Além disso, a intenção do Visconde de Ouro Preto, presidente do conselho de ministros, era de tornar inesquecível este baile, para reforçar a posição do Império, contra as conspirações republicanas.
